The National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) has announced that Jamaica will celebrate National Grandparents Day on Sunday to honour and thank grandparents for their knowledge, love, and care.
The event, which will be held at The Verandah in the Juici Complex in Clarendon, will feature an array of activities designed to delight grandparents. Special guest performers will take place, as well as multiple prizes and engaging games for attendees.
Minister of Labour and Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr. expressed excitement for the occasion.
“National Grandparents Day is an opportunity for us to express our deep gratitude to the older generation. Grandparents are pivotal in nurturing our families and enriching our culture with their stories and experiences. As a nation, we owe them a debt of gratitude for their unwavering support and love,” said the minister in a release.
Cassandra Morrison, executive director of the NCSC, emphasised the importance of this event and noted that grandparents are the cornerstone of society.
She shared that through this event, the NCSC hopes to honour the contributions of grandparents, foster intergenerational bonds, and ensure that stories of wisdom are passed down to future generations.
September is Senior Citizens’ Month. This year’s theme is “Embracing Wisdom, Uniting Generations”.
