Magna Motors expands scholarship programme to wider Jamaica for 2021-22 academic year

Magna Motors Dealership Limited expanded its annual scholarship and grant programme beyond its staff and customers amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Some 33 recipients were awarded last Tuesday, September 14 at their brand new world-class facility at 7 Oxford Road in New Kingston. 

The Scholarship and Grant programme aims to extend financial support to children of the Magna Motors family, inclusive of employees, children of employees, customers and now the wider Jamaican public.  

The 2021 recipients were task with sharing in an essay, indicating how the financial assistance would help them achieve their academic goals. The recipients were shortlisted from across the island and focused on students at the primary and secondary levels.

At the recent award ceremony, Erick Gutierrez, CEO of Magna Motors Dealership Limited in Jamaica, shared his passion for education and noted the endless possibilities an education offers.

He encouraged the children to learn a second language, such as his native language, Spanish, to increase opportunities globally.

Gutierrez stated that the Dominican Republic-based parent company Magna Motors acknowledges that our youth are the future and remains committed to supporting children like the recipients to achieve their academic goals. 

Some of the 2021 recipients were: Davian Richards of Crofts Hill All Age School; Dejaun Buchanan of Jamaica College; Farrah Alcock of Junior World Learning & Activity Centre; Kiara Thomas of Camperdown High School; Christina McPherson of Bishop Gibson High School; Anthony Ledgister of Mico Practising Primary & Junior High School; Amoy Shauna Henry of St. Andrew High School for Girls; Tahani Barnes of Immaculate Conception High School and Carlos Williams of Wolmers Boys School.

In his welcome address, Etmour Williams, marketing manager at Magna Motors, reflected on his childhood and the academic opportunities he enjoyed, thanks to a few corporate entities in Jamaica.

“The Scholarship and Grant Programme is dear to my heart as I know first hand the benefits it provides for children in need. Magna Motors is cognisant of the extenuating situation facing the typical Jamaican parents and children and is delighted to assist in whatever way we can,” he disclosed.

Magna Motors Dealership supported the Central High School in Clarendon with vehicles to enable students whose parents did not own a motor vehicle to enjoy their recent drive-through graduation ceremony. The company supported the students and school for the second graduation since the pandemic.
