The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) says it will begin the distribution of the newly designed voter registration identification cards starting next week Monday, October 11.
In a statement on Monday (October 4), the EOJ explained that electors whose cards were automatically renewed, (i.e. electors whose current voter ID card was issued in 2015 or after), can collect their cards at the EOJ constituency office where they are registered.
The EOJ encouraged electors to carry their current voter ID card, along with the receipt when collecting the new ID to avoid being turned away.
“We anticipate a rush on our offices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. We, therefore, designed a plan to distribute the new cards in alphabetical order of electors’ surnames on specified days of the week, to limit the gatherings at our constituency offices while observing all COVID-19 protocols,” explained Glasspole Brown, Director of Elections.
The new voter ID cards will be available at EOJ constituency offices across the island between the hours 8:30 am and 4:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays. On Fridays, the window of pick up is from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.
The order of distribution to electors is as follows:
Mondays: Surnames beginning from ‘A’ to ‘E’
Tuesdays: ‘F’ to ‘K’
Wednesdays: ‘L’ to ‘P’
Thursdays: ‘Q’ to ‘T’
Fridays: ‘U’ to ‘Z’
Electors who visited EOJ offices to renew up to July 2021 must confirm a pick-up location before visiting EOJ offices to pick up their new ID cards.
The persons who have not yet renewed their cards must visit an EOJ constituency office in order to receive the new voter ID card.
The new card will replace all current voter ID cards which expire on December 31, 2021.
All visitors to the EOJ offices are required to observe all COVID-19 protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW).
