New food delivery service Road Jockey says it aims to revolutionise the way Jamaicans order and enjoy their meals.
The company, which was originally launched in Montego Bay but has expanded to Portmore and Kingston, offers a seamless service that allows customers to track their delivery from pick up to the point of arrival.
Customers can also pay online using various methods, making the transactions cashless and convenient.
Road Jockey is the brainchild of Rajiv Maragh, a renowned Jamaican-born jockey who has made a name for himself in the United States.
Maragh said he wanted to bring the service that the rest of the world gets to his homeland and the Caribbean region.
“We feel like the Caribbean deserves the service that the rest of the world gets. We are really striving to just improve what we have, grow, and just keep expanding as much as we can throughout the Caribbean, through CARICOM.
The Road Jockey CEO added that the company’s mission is to eradicate “the unreliability of soon come”, by utilising cutting-edge technology to automate and streamline the shopping process.
“Our vision is to be the one stop e commerce marketplace for the Caribbean, where consumers can conveniently get what they want, when they want it. We are currently operating in three cities in Jamaica. During this pilot stage our marketplace hosted over 25 food restaurants between the Kingston, Portmore and Montego Bay areas,” Maragh said, adding that, “Our success to date has been extraordinary. We have broken barriers that many deemed impossible in Jamaica. While this is just the beginning for us, we are already realising our mission.”
Maragh said the Road Jockey technology allows for food to be delivered to the consumer as fast as 18 minutes after “submitting”, noting that the system is reliable and transparent, using world class technology to facilitate communication and coordination between customers, drivers, and restaurants.
“Customers can track their orders in real time using GPS and receive notifications when their food is ready or on its way. Drivers, or “roadies” as they are called, are equipped with insulated bags and helmets to ensure safety and quality,” he further revealed.
Road Jockey is not only a business venture for Maragh, but also a way of giving back to his community. He said that he hopes his company will create more jobs and opportunities for Jamaicans, especially during the pandemic.
“We are trying to help out as much as we can with employment,” he said adding that Road Jockey is set to become Jamaica’s answer to Doordash and Grub Hub, two popular food delivery services in the United States.
With its high-tech features, diverse options, and customer-oriented approach, Road Jockey promises to deliver convenience, satisfaction, and delight to Jamaican food lovers.
“It’s quite simple. A shopper opens the Road Jockey App and all our participating merchants in the vicinity of their delivery address will populate. Our average delivery range is 15km from the merchant. Here they [consumers]will browse the menus, see availability, and customize items. You will be able to see the time you will receive the item before you even place the order,” he said.
“Each item has a unique estimated prep time. Combining that with the delivery time based on real time GPS, will be the expected arrival time.”
