The St Elizabeth police have taken Jermaine ‘ Afro’ Reid, a 37-year-old farmer from Comma Pen District, St Elizabeth, into custody and charged him with the murder of Travie Powell, a 62-year-old farmer from the same district.

Reports from the Black River police are that about 6 p.m., on March 16, a team was summoned to quell a dispute between both men. However, before the police team arrived, Reid allegedly wielded a hoe, striking Powell in the head. Powell was subsequently transported to hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injury two days later.

Reid surrendered to the police in the presence of his attorney on March 25. Following a question-and-answer session, he was formally charged in connection with Powell’s death.

His court date is being arranged.
