“Doing the right thing all the time.”

This is one of the tenets that Michelle Chong, Chief Executive Officer of Honey Bun Limited and Founder of The Honey Bun Foundation, credits for her success in business. Chong was speaking during the ‘Women in Business’ panel at the We Inspire Women Wealth and Wellness Brunch at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in St Andrew on Sunday August 27.

Joined on the panel by Co-founder of Lifespan Company Limited Nayana Williams, Chong encouraged women entrepreneurs present at the event to speak up about their businesses and to not be afraid to state plainly what they want. Among those in the crowd hearing the charge were her special guests, the female business owners who were part of the 2023 cohort of The Honey Bun Foundation’s Advisory Committee.

Chong also noted that for her more than 40 years running the popular baking company, “prayer has been at the core of our being.” She continued, “when God needs it to be it will be. The voice of God will lead you. You just must listen.”

While noting that entrepreneurship is a difficult journey, Chong said that it helps to do what you are passionate about. “Are you in business doing what you are passionate about? What brings you joy?” she challenged the gathering. “Ask for the signs. It may not be delivered right away, but if you stay attuned to what He says, He is leading you to your purpose. Once you are in your purpose, nothing else matters.”
