Detectives assigned to the Savanna-La-Mar Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of an elderly woman who was found in a mummified state.

Her body was found at her house in Old Hope district, Little London, Westmoreland, on Sunday, July 6.

She has been identified as Viola Destin; however, her age and date of birth have yet to be confirmed.

Reports are that Destin died on December 10, 2023. However, instead of reporting the death, Destin’s live-in caregiver, 54-year-old Gena Robinson, concealed the body inside a room at the house. A relative of the deceased summoned the police on Sunday, July 6, after becoming suspicious.

Destin’s decomposed remains were seen lying on a mattress. The scene was processed, and the body was removed to the morgue pending a post-mortem.

Robinson is facing the charges of failure to report the death of a Person, preventing the lawful burial of a corpse, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The investigation is ongoing.
