A joint investigation with detectives assigned to the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station and the Transnational Crime Investigation Division (TCID) has led to the arrest and charge of a woman following an alleged fabricated kidnapping in Westmoreland on August 15.

Charged with Creating Public Mischief is 35-year-old Alecia Watkins, otherwise called ‘Renae’, of Petersfield, Westmoreland.

Reports are that at about 7:43 p.m., the father of Watkins’ child allegedly received a photo and voice note that Watkins had been kidnapped, and a demand was made for $600,000.

The matter was reported to the Savanna-la-Mar Police, and TCID investigators were contacted, and an investigation was launched. On Monday, August 17, 2026, about 11:00 p.m., the police received information that Watkins had returned home. 

Watkins was subsequently taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station, where she was interviewed. The investigation revealed that the kidnapping had been fabricated, and Watkins was arrested and charged.  

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is reminding the public that making false reports can lead to prosecution and divert police resources from genuine emergencies. Investigations are ongoing.
