Have you ever wanted to find a song but can’t remember its name or the lyrics? YouTube announced today, August 23, that it is testing a new feature that will allow Android users to search for music by humming it or recording a song that is currently being played, seemingly a superior version to the popular music discovery app Shazam.
The feature, which is being rolled out to a select group of Android users, aims to make music discovery more intuitive and seamless.

For those users participating in the experiment, accessing the search-by-song feature is straightforward. Users can toggle from the regular YouTube voice search to the newly introduced song search option. Once activated, users need to hum or record the song they’re looking for, with the recording lasting a minimum of 3 seconds.
Upon successful identification of the song, users are presented with the official music videos and other user-generated videos and shorts that feature the song.
While it’s an exciting upcoming feature, it’s important to note that this is still experimental and currently only available to a limited percentage of YouTube users who watch the platform on Android devices.
