Eighty-two persons were repatriated to Cuba on Thursday (April 27) by members of the US Coast Guard Cutter following interdictions off Florida’s coast.

According to the US Coast Guard, four migrant vessels transporting Cuban migrants were interdicted between Saturday and Tuesday.

A migrant vessel transporting migrants was interdicted on Saturday, at approximately 4:30 pm about 45 miles south of Marathon.

On Sunday, Coast Guards interdicted two separate migrants vessels, one at approximately about 23 miles north of Cayo Cruz Del Padre, Cuba and another 46 miles south of Key West. Another migrant vessel was stopped about 69 miles south of Key West on Tuesday.

“Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas announced a change to the Cuban and Haitian Parole Processes, Thursday,” said Capt. Benjamin Golightly, Operation Vigilant Sentry incident commander.

“Individuals who are interdicted at sea after April 27, 2023, will be ineligible for the aforementioned Parole Processes announced last January.”

Since October 1, 2022, Coast Guard crews interdicted 6,477 Cubans compared to 6,182 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2022  and 838 Cuban Migrants in Fiscal Year 2021.

This interdiction is a result of ongoing local and federal multi-agency efforts in support of the Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG).
