The St James Municipal Cooperation will be receiving a donation of some 20,000 masks.

The annoucement comes from Montego Bay Mayor Leeroy Williams, who has indicated that the masks are being donated by one of Montego Bay’s sister cities, Zhuhai in China.

In February of this year, a memorandum of understanding (MOU), which officially established the sister-city relationship between Montego Bay and Zhuhai, was signed.

The masks will be issued to members of the public through agencies, institutions and individuals.

“The municipal corporation continues to partner with the Ministry of Health and Wellness in the fight against COVID-19… . The masks will be distributed to members of the public through a number of agencies, institutions, and individuals,” Williams shared.

He added that masks will also be provided to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, the Office of the Custos, the St James Public Health Department, as well as to the 14 sitting councillors of the St James Municipal Corporation and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Hangzhou, also in China, and Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States are other sister cities of Montego Bay.

Williams highlighted other initiatives that are being established as the sister cities try to continue to build their relationship in efforts to form a solid partnership.
