A fire is now raging at the Princess Royal Building which houses two iconic businesses, namely Kingston Bookshop and Ammars both household names on King Street.

Both businesses are adjacent to another iconic building, Kingston Parish Church one of the oldest churches in Jamaica. The premises are registered at 70 and 70b King Street.

Our Today observed three fire units at work trying to extinguish the blaze. A firefighter gearing up with a breathing apparatus to enter the building was also observed.

No immediate damage to Kingston Bookshop, owned and operated by Custos of Kingston, Steadman Fulle,r was apparent.

The fire has been mostly extinguished, and a cooling-down operation is now in progress. A strong police detachment is now on hand to maintain calm as a large crowd of onlookers has gathered. The fire was observed shortly after 9 am this morning.
