A new chapter in the legacy of one of Mitsubishi Motors’ most recognisable SUV nameplates began with the global debut of the fifth-generation Mitsubishi Pajero in Japan, introducing an all-new “cross-country SUV” designed to carry the iconic model into a new era. The new Pajero marks a “distinctive evolution” of the nameplate, combining its heritage as a capable all-terrain SUV with a heightened focus on refinement, comfort and everyday usability.

The global unveiling, held as part of Mitsubishi Motors’ Global Distributors Meeting, brought together representatives from the manufacturer’s international distributor network for the official presentation of the All-New Pajero. Representing Jamaica were Jeneque Pinnock, Group Marketing Manager, and Jermaine Robinson, Group Commercial Manager of Stewart’s Automotive Group, who attended the World Premiere and participated in associated activities, including a dedicated test drive experience. The All-New Pajero is anticipated to arrive in the Jamaican market in September 2027, giving local consumers the opportunity to experience the next generation of a nameplate with a long-standing association with Mitsubishi Motors and the SUV segment.

At the global unveiling, Mitsubishi Motors highlighted several key elements of the new Pajero’s engineering and capability, including the manufacturer’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) technology. The system manages torque distribution and vehicle dynamics across all four wheels and incorporates Active Yaw Control (AYC) to support vehicle control and stability across different driving conditions.

S-AWC first made its debut in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X and was subsequently applied to other Mitsubishi models, including the Outlander and Eclipse Cross. Its application in the latest-generation Triton marked the first time the technology was used in a body-on-frame vehicle. The All-New Pajero combines S-AWC with Mitsubishi Motors’ Super Select 4WD-II system, providing drivers with a range of drivetrain and terrain options. These include rear-wheel drive, full-time four-wheel drive, low-range gearing and a locking differential, alongside multi-terrain drive modes. Together, the systems are designed to provide greater flexibility across a range of driving environments, from everyday road conditions to more demanding off-road terrain. The new Pajero also features a pure ladder-frame construction, based on the latest Triton platform. Mitsubishi Motors has paired the body-on-frame architecture with a suspension system engineered to balance off-road capability with on-road comfort.

For off-road driving, the suspension was developed to handle rough terrain, large bumps and significant impacts. On paved and uneven roads, the system was designed to suppress unwanted body movement and vibration, contributing to a more refined ride and helping to reduce fatigue during longer journeys.

The new Pajero is powered by a new-generation clean diesel engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission featuring Sport Mode, delivering strong torque and smooth acceleration while meeting stringent emissions requirements. Together with its ground clearance and approach angles, the powertrain and chassis are designed to provide the confidence expected of a genuine SUV while remaining manageable in everyday driving.

“The global debut of the All-New Pajero was an exciting milestone for the Mitsubishi brand and an important moment for Stewart’s Automotive Group as we look ahead to its anticipated arrival in Jamaica,” said Franz Lawrence, Mitsubishi Brand Sales Manager, Stewart’s Automotive Group. “The Pajero has a strong heritage as a capable and versatile SUV, and this new generation builds on that legacy with a combination of advanced all-wheel-drive technology, robust engineering and enhanced on-road comfort. Having the opportunity to see the vehicle unveiled and experience it first-hand has given us valuable insight into what Jamaican customers can look forward to when the All-New Pajero reaches our market.”

“We continued to ask ourselves what the essence of the Pajero truly is. What we pursued was not a simple revival. Free from fixed ideas, we confronted the Pajero’s essence. The answer we reached was ‘distinctive evolution, ’ said Kunitoshi Itagaki, Mitsubishi Motors. “‘Distinctive’ refers to the spirit of the Pajero, born in Japan, not following in someone else’s footsteps but creating new value on its own. ‘Evolution’ means carrying that spirit into the future.”

That philosophy is reflected in the Pajero’s “Grand Charisma” design concept, which combines a commanding presence with elements drawn from the model’s heritage. The vehicle retains the horizontal and square proportions associated with earlier generations, while its C-pillar draws inspiration from the roll bar of the first-generation Pajero. The front design incorporates Mitsubishi Motors’ Dynamic Shield in a more three-dimensional form, complemented by a distinctive T-shaped lamp signature intended to establish a new visual identity for the model.

Inside, the new Pajero carries forward the open, spacious character of the first generation, while introducing higher levels of material quality, craftsmanship and comfort. The cabin features a horizontal instrument panel, soft-touch materials and distinctive H-stitching, with attention given to the tactile feel of switches and other touchpoints. The vehicle also offers generous space across all seating positions, with a second-row seat-slide and tumble mechanism designed to support ease of access and everyday practicality.

Following the World Premiere, the Jamaican delegation participated in a dedicated test drive experience on September 5, providing an opportunity to experience the All-New Pajero beyond the static reveal and assess its driving experience, functionality and performance.

“Experiencing the All-New Pajero first-hand provided a clear indication of the thought and engineering that have gone into this new generation,” said Jermaine Robinson, Group Commercial Manager, Stewart’s Automotive Group. “The combination of its capability, technology and focus on driving comfort positions the Pajero as a great addition to our SUV line-up at Mitsubishi. We are excited about what this new model will bring to the Jamaican market and look forward to introducing it to our customers.”

As anticipation builds ahead of the vehicle’s expected Jamaican arrival in September 2027, Stewart’s Automotive Group will continue to share additional information on the All-New Mitsubishi Pajero as details regarding its local specifications, features, pricing and availability are officially confirmed.
