Nkrumah Bonner’s unbeaten 90 was the foundation for Team Blackwood’s first innings score of 234-4 at the end of the first day of the BestvBest match against Team Brathwaite at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua on Wednesday (October 27).

When the match resumes today (October 28), Bonner and Raymon Reifer (2) will continue to build on their fifth-wicket partnership of 12 after several of their teammates got starts but failed to carry on.

Bonner featured in partnerships of 35 with Shayne Moseley, 55 with Jermaine Blackwood and 88 with Kavem Hodge, all of which followed Team Blackwood’s opening stand of 47 between Moseley and Kieran Powell.

Bonner arrived at the crease in the 18th over after Rahkeem Cornwall had Powell, who was the anchor for Team Blackwood, caught by Nail Smith for 31.

HODGE SCORES PATIENT 39

Cornwall picked up his second wicket when he had Moseley caught by Smith for 39 with the score at 79. Bonner and Blackwood would achieve the first 50-run stand of the innings but Blackwood lost his wicket shortly thereafter when Preston McSween got him out lbw for 27 with the score at 134.

Bonner then found another useful partner in Kavem Hodge, who scored a patient 39 from 90 balls before he was dismissed lbw to Veerasammy Permaul close to stumps.

It was left to Reifer and Bonner to see out the remaining 4.2 overs without any further loss.

So far, Bonner has faced 200 balls and struck seven fours and two sixes and will be eyeing a century when play resumes on Thursday.

Cornwall has so far taken 2-52 from 16 overs while Permaul has 1-52 and McSween 1-25.
