The Chris Brown & Friends concert, according to many on social media, will go down in history as one of the greatest events in Jamaica, after receiving rave reviews from spectators who say it was worth every penny.

Last night, thousands of patrons gathered at the National Stadium, where they eagerly awaited the arrival of the American singer, dancer, and songwriter, who promised to deliver an epic performance.

However, they had quite the wait with the How We Roll artiste bringing more friends than anticipated. The show, which was scheduled to start at 6 p.m., was delayed by an hour, leaving many anxious for the arrival of the “King of R&B”.

Before Breezy took the stage, Jamaican artistes such as Valiant, Aidonia, Gramps Morgan, Ding Dong, Najeeriii, Teejay, Kraff, and more warmed up the crowd.

Jamaican-American artiste Sean Kingston also took the stage just moments before Brown appeared, singing hit songs Beautiful GirlTake You There, and Fire Burning.

According to Jamaicans on social media, while the wait was long, the Superhero artiste more than delivered on his promise, with a high-energy, two-hour performance that took spectators on a musical journey through his catalogue.

Many also praised the artiste for the production level of his set that treated spectators to colourful visuals.

“The way Chris Brown smoothly transitioned from one song to the next, the energy! HIS Sexy Aura! The dancers…The Catalogue of Songs… He had hits on top of hits… I loved everything about Chris Brown’s Concert! Everything!” said one person on social media.

“Chris Brown’s production for his show was not normal, he brought another level that I don’t think was ever seen in Jamaica, the effects on screen, making him look drunk, or in the clouds,” wrote another user.

“I think we can all agree that Chris Brown gave us a masterpiece of a performance,” said one user. Another user agreed, sharing that ” seeing Chris Brown perform is top 5 best things me ever experience.”

VIP controversy

While some users agreed that the performance was great, the zoning arrangements for the ‘Sky View’ was a controversial topic.

Sky View tickets for the concert went for J$1.5 million, inclusive of 12 Indio ultra-VIP all- inclusive tickets to the concert, 12 VIP Weekend passes to all BZR weekend events, VIP parking passes, souvenirs, private security, premium bottles, and a VIP culinary experience.

However, the section was not the ‘sky view’ experience that many were expecting. Patrons in the sky view were further from the stage than expected and barely elevated to give them the bird’s eye experience.

J$1.5 million ticket holders were placed to the side, closer to the bleachers section of the concert and further away from the stage than the Ultra-VIP patrons who paid J$73,0000.

“Sky view or side view?” one user questioned when a video showing the section began circulating on TikTok.

“All me get a better view and an inna mi bed me deh a watch live,” one user commented. “I envisioned the sky view being up in the air,” another wrote under the video.

“I loved the concert, but the VIP was a waste of money. The setup was soooo dumb. Literally had to sit in the bleachers to actually get a view of the stage. There were so many obstructions blocking the view of the stage. VIP holders need to be refunded some kind of the money for the non-sense view. Ridiculous!” another wrote.

However, despite the controversial zoning arrangement. Many said the concert was worth every penny.

“Y’all can complain about everything else, but Chris Brown gave y’all your [money’s] worth with his performance. The man neva short change unuh at all,” one user wrote.

“Jamaica, that is a concert performance. FINALLY. Thank you, Chris Brown!!! Not a dollar waste,” another user wrote.

Chris Brown’s last performance in Jamaica was at Reggae Sumfest in 2010, where he had a mini dance-off with Usher under the tutelage of Elephant Man.
