Chairman of the Professional Football Jamaica Limited, Christopher Williams, has stepped down from his post effective August 31.
“I am stepping down in order to ‘unretire’ in my business and professional life,” said Williams. “I have a burning desire to build several other businesses. PFJL has my heart, but the time has come to refocus my energies.”
The 57-year-old Williams is the co-founder of Proven Group Limited. He ventured into football five years ago and brought his proven business skills, generating over $1 billion in commercial sponsorship from the private sector.
In 2024, Williams retired from his executive roles with Proven and was said to be interested in venture capital to provide both capital and guidance to young companies.
He was credited with building a sustainable broadcast model for the Jamaica Premier League, delivering weekly national coverage and increasing fan engagement both locally and across the diaspora.
The Professional Football Jamaica confirmed Williams’ departure, calling him a visionary leader in five transformative years and a commitment to the growth of Jamaican football.
“Since assuming the role five years ago, Mr Williams has been a catalytic force behind the rebirth and rebranding of Jamaica’s top-flight football league, bringing business discipline, commercial growth and media visibility to a national treasure,” said the PFJL in a media statement.
