Prominent Jamaican contemporary dance company L’ACADCO is set to make its much-anticipated return to New York City.

L’ACADCO will be performing this Thursday (January 11) at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College, led by its artistic director, Dr. L’Antoinette Stines.

Stines has been hailed by Jennifer Dunning of the New York Times, who says she “is not only a bundle of powerful energy and gestural acuity but a thought-provoking choreographer, whose dances weave together strands of ballet, modern dance and folkloric techniques into a visually dazzling whole.”

The event is being held under the patronage of Consul General of Jamaica to New York, Alsion Roach-Wilson, and will honour Jamaica-born, Dr. Una Clarke, who is the first Caribbean woman elected to the New York City’s legislature.

Clarke was elected in 1991 and during her 10 years tenure, she sponsored more than 300 pieces of legislation on a wide range of issues including child welfare, education, health and mental health issues, economic development, public safety and transportation.

Part proceeds of the event will go to the Children of Jamaica Outreach (COJO).
