Sharing his thoughts on aspects of Jamaica’s education system, then and now, by former principal of Mico College, Professor Errol Miller, will be one of the highlights of a special 50th anniversary service and lunch by members of Mico’s graduating class of 1975 this Sunday, August 10.

Professor Miller will be the event’s special guest during the event at Mico’s Marescaux Road, Kingston location.

Now known as Mico University College, the 189-year-old premier Jamaican educational institution, which was started in 1836, has produced some of the Caribbean’s foremost educators, movers and shakers.

The event, to be hosted by students who entered the college in 1972, the same year that Professor Miller was appointed principal, and graduated in 1975, will begin with an ecumenical church service, starting at 10:00, and will end with lunch.

The sermon will be delivered by Anglican priest, Rev Charles Danvers, a retired senior educator.

Deceased members of the class of 1975 will also be recognised at the function. Close to 300 students graduated from the college that same year.

Professor Miller is also a former president of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, university lecturer, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education, and chairman of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica.

“Apart from catching up with Miconians, some of whom we have not seen over many years, we are anxious to hear the thoughts of Professor Miller on education,” said Rev Danvers, who also served as deputy director of elections, in charge of field operations, at the Electoral Office of Jamaica. “It should be a good day overall, and we look forward to having a productive time.”
