Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik battled their way to the US Open mixed doubles title, saving two match points during their run before walking away with the trophy and $1 million in prize money.

The Czech pairing defeated Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 in the final, with Mensik sealing victory in style by firing a 131mph ace on their third championship point.

Muchova and Mensik survived two match points in their semifinal against Andrey Rublev and Mirra Andreeva before fighting their way into the championship match.

The victory gives both players their first Grand Slam title. For Muchova, the triumph comes just over six weeks after losing the Wimbledon final to fellow Czech Linda Noskova and subsequently undergoing a minor surgical procedure.

Mensik, a French Open semifinalist this year, entered the tournament having never played mixed doubles, but his powerful serve quickly became a major weapon.
