Venus and Serena Williams are joining forces once again, with the American tennis icons set to compete together in the women’s doubles at the US Open for their first Grand Slam appearance as a pairing in four years.

The sisters, who have twice lifted the women’s doubles trophy in New York, received a wildcard from the United States Tennis Association. Their last Grand Slam together came at the 2022 US Open, which was also Serena’s final tournament before stepping away from regular competition.

The pair recently reunited on court at the Cincinnati Open, where they were beaten in three sets by Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns. Serena has also been active in New York, partnering Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open mixed doubles and reaching the quarter finals.

Few doubles partnerships can match the Williams sisters’ record. Serena and Venus have captured 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together and have never lost a major doubles final, with their most recent trophy coming at Wimbledon in 2016.

New York has also provided some memorable moments for the sisters, who won the US Open doubles crown in 1999 and again in 2009. Now, more than two decades after their first triumph at Flushing Meadows, the Williams sisters are preparing for another run together, with their opening match scheduled for either September 3 or 4.
