
A further outbreak of the COVID-19 virus in the Ireland team has forced the postponement of the second One Day International against the West Indies at Sabina Park in Kingston, which was set to get under way tomorrow (January 11).
Two additional positive COVID-19 cases were reported in the Ireland camp following recent testing and with two players being ruled out due to injury, Ireland was facing a severely depleted squad.
In all, The five members of the Ireland team have returned positive COVID-19 results and they remain in isolation
under the care and supervision of the medical teams.
As it stands, Cricket West Indies and Cricket Ireland are in discussions to review the match schedule and are working to explore all possibilities for the series to be completed.

Ireland are scheduled to face the West Indies in three ODIs and one T20 International in the series that began on January 5 with a warm-up match against the Jamaica Scorpions. Ireland played the West Indies in the first of the ODIs at Sabina Park on Saturday, going down by 24 runs to the home side.
Simi Singh and Ben White are among the players who tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday night and are expected to miss the entire series. However, Paul Stirling and Shane Getkate, who were forced to isolate in Florida after testing positive for COVID, travelled to Jamaica on the weekend after testing negative.
In the meantime, Andy McBrine, who was struck on the helmet while batting against the West Indies on Saturday and retired hurt had follow-up assessments over the following 48 hours for a suspect ‘mild concussive episode’.
It was expected that he would have been cleared to play in the second ODI on Tuesday if he passed his
final assessment.
