Netball enthusiasts are in for an exciting showdown as South Africa’s formidable netball team, SPAR Proteas, gear up to face off against Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls in a thrilling three-Test series set to unfold in Kingston later this year.

The news was announced by Netball South Africa (NSA) President Cecilia Molokwane, who shared that the team officially inked a fresh contract with their Jamaican counterparts for the upcoming three-Test-match series, emphasising the significance of competing against a nation ranked higher than theirs.

Molokwane acknowledged that scheduling the series was challenging due to the Sunshine Girls’ busy agenda.

Currently ranked fifth in the world, the South African netball team aims to surpass the fourth-ranked in the world, Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls. With both teams eyeing an ascent in world rankings, the stage is set for a fierce competition.

The last time the two teams faced each other in a Test series was during a tri-nations series in Kingston two years ago, which also featured Trinidad and Tobago amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sunshine Girls secured a 67-49 victory over South Africa when they faced off in the World Cup held in South Africa from July to August 2023. This win was particularly sweet revenge for the Sunshine Girls, as they had been defeated 55-52 by the Proteas in the 2019 World Cup in England.
