Since 2014, lifelong friends Arianne Hammond, Orane ‘Naro’ Hart, and Javielle Martin, have been committed to their mission of giving a voice to the industry as the centre for millennials in all things entertainment and culture in Jamaica.

Dubbed ‘The Fix’ for its original intent to sate young people’s desire to be heard, The Fix began as a once-per-week three-month test at the Newstalk radio station in Kingston. The series became one of the most popular shows on Newstalk within three months. The agreement was extended to five days per week for the next three years.

At the end of their tenure with Newstalk, the trio transitioned to the podcast space with their newfound audio and video engineer Matthew Jervis, and established trailblazers in the local podcasting game.

Martin, one of the hosts and producers for The Fix, said, “The whole idea for the show is that it’s not supposed to be traditional media. It’s supposed to be freer, where anyone that’s a part of the show can feel comfortable sharing what they want the world to know.”

The show has since grown into a behemoth in the Jamaican podcast industry, having featured legends in the music industry, cultural icons, and political figures.

Hart, another of the hosts and producers recounted the moment he became confident in the show’s potential. “I became pretty confident a few months in when PR representatives and managers started reaching out to us and letting us know they wanted to come on our show to express themselves, I knew we had something special.”

The podcast series over the last 10 years has been the host of some of the most viral discussions in the entertainment space. Speaking on her experiences over the last ten years and what has been the secret to keeping the show going Hammond, another of the hosts and producers expressed that it’s the mutual respect for one another and the endurance against adversity that the trio has built up over time.

“For me, the biggest thing has been learning to understand how to work with a team, how to compromise, and how to clearly express your expectations with each other to create the best version of what we’ve envisioned,” she said.

For the show’s 10th anniversary on January 25, The Fix will be hosting a live audience, meet and greet event, called The Fix Live, where audience members can be present during recording and ask questions to the cast while on air.
