Top tips for getting you looking fresh and rested in mere minutes.

With all of the socialising and events, there can be a lot of late nights to contend with in December.

But what should you do if you wake up with tell-tale puffiness and under-eye bags due to those festive drinks and Christmas parties?

Sharon Copeland, an optician at Feel Good Contacts, has some top tips to get you looking fresh and rested in mere minutes.

Dab on some witch hazel

Witch hazel is a natural astringent with anti-inflammatory properties.

“It has a tightening effect on the skin which means that it is great for controlling bags and puffiness under the eyes by shrinking blood vessels,” she explained. “Simply soak two cotton wool balls in witch hazel and place them on closed eyes for about 10 minutes.”

Scour the cutlery drawer

Place two metal spoons in the freezer for a couple of minutes.

“Then, place the cup of the spoons over your closed eyes for a minute. The chill will help to reduce the swelling,” insisted Sharon.

Raid the refrigerator

For an instant refresh, pop some chilled tea bags under the eyes for a few minutes.

“The antioxidants and caffeine content will help to tighten and de-puff the eye area. Or try popping on some chilled cucumber slices or cool raw potato slices over the eyes. The enzymes in potatoes will perk up your peepers,” the eye expert advised, adding that investing in the reusable Thera-Pearl Eye Mask is also a good idea.

“Designed with pearl technology, the small pearls can remain cool for long periods of time. For use, simply chill in the freezer for two hours then let it sit over your eyes for the doctor-recommended 20 minutes. Its pliable, face-hugging shape stays put without drips or leaks.”

Get some shut-eye

While it may be difficult, do catch up on sleep when you can.

“The key to keeping puffiness and bags under your eyes at bay is to get enough sleep. Aim for seven to eight hours per night,” she commented, noting that it’s also important to drink plenty of water and take anti-histamines if your eyes begin to feel itchy or irritated.
