
The upcoming season of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) has a new presenting partner. J Wray & Nephew Limited’s flagship brand, Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, has brokered a three-season-long deal with the island’s premier football league.
The new partnership was officially unveiled during a media launch on Tuesday, October 10, at J. Wray & Nephew Limited’s offices in New Kingston. Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum’s Brand PR & Communications Manager Dominic Bell is excited to reignite the partnership with JPL, having previously provided support in the early to mid-2000s.
“Sports in Jamaica is the lifeline of many. We understand the great impact that football has on our communities and the wider social fabric as a nation. As a proud supporter of grassroots engagement and development, the Jamaica Premier League provides the opportunity for the brand to play a role in advancing the welfare of stakeholders both on and off the field in a professional and commercialised manner,” Bell said.
In the meantime, Chief Executive Officer of the Professional Football Jamaica Limited, Owen Hill was elated that the Wray & Nephew Group has decided to re-take the mantle in its support of local football.
“We always expect great things from a partnership with Wray & Nephew. In this newest agreement, the mission for PFJL is to build a viable football industry for our key stakeholder groups, as such, the vision alignment between the two iconic brands provides a perfect conduit to achieve these goals,” Hill said.
Over the past 10 years J. Wray & Nephew’s investment in sport alone in Jamaica has easily surpassed J$1 billion.
At the launch event, the group’s Managing Director JP Beyer boasted about the numerous sporting partnerships and initiatives the brand would have supported in the last decade, including but not limited to Wray & Nephew Contender boxing series and now it’s successor Wary & Nephew Fight Nights.
The brand also remains a main sponsor for the Social Development Commission’s T20 Community Cricket League.
Other sponsorships have included: The Sunshine Girls during their most recent world cup cycle. The original Bobsleigh Team and most recently the Jamaican Bobsleigh team that competed in the 2022 Winter Olympics. The KSAFA Cup and in the past All National Super Leagues.
The Wray & Nephew 2023 to 2024 JPL season officially kicks off on October 22, 2023, and will run until May 2024.
