Best Weekend Ever (BWE) has announced the launch of an internship programme tailored for final-year students at the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI), in the entertainment, cultural and enterprise, and management (ECEM) and the cultural creative industries (CCI) degree programmes.

BWE director Jywanza Hall announced on Tuesday (April 30), during the BWE launch event, that the initiative promises to bridge the gap between academia and industry by offering practical experience to final-year students in this specialised degree programme.

“The reason for this programme is that we want to ensure the industry stays in good hands and everybody will have the opportunity to have an event at the level we are having,” he explained further.

This is part of the organisation’s commitment to nurturing future talent and preserving the entertainment sector. As such, the internship will provide hands-on experience in marketing and public relations and will offer students practical support for their theoretical learning.

“This is how we ensure that the entertainment industry is sustainable and that the students who are now in school can have the best education and best practical [experience] ever,” said emcee for the BWE launch event, Dania Beckford.

Best Weekend Ever is a five-day, seven-event premium party series that will take place throughout Independence Weekend, August 2-6.
