Rap beef on as J. Cole fires back at Kendrick Lamar

The rap battle of the decade has officially commenced as J. Cole responds with ‘7-minute Drill’ to Kendrick Lamar’s diss on Future’s ‘Like That’.
After Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ call-to-action verse and now his recent ‘Like That’ diss directed at J. Cole and Drake where he said the infamous, hard-hitting line, “it’s just big me”, fans have been waiting for the two to go head-to-head in a top spot-defining rap battle to end the debate once and for all.
J. Cole clapped back with ‘7 Minute Drill’ on April 4, a three-minute track where he is making it clear he is ready for battle, and it’s even clearer that ‘cool head’ Cole is out the window for this rap beef.

An immaculate beat switch-up has the track feeling like a two-for-one as we get Cole going in on Kendrick in his signature flows. Cole seemingly sampled ‘Energy’ by Drake, making it clear he is not above being petty, since Drake and Kendrick have had a long-standing beef, and Lamar did go after both of them on ‘Like That’.

“This is merely a warning shot to back niggas down,” said Cole on the track, which has fans anticipation at an all-time high for the battle ahead.
Cole is a savage on this track, leaving his fans proud in the comment sections, while other neutral hip-hop heads are just glad to be witnessing the battle of the decade.
One fan wrote, “I’m not picking sides! I’m just glad to be alive to witness this! [N]eutral or not, Team Cole vs Team Lamar will certainly not be disappointed if their catalogues are anything to go by.”
Both artistes are considered among the top rappers in their field and are often compared. Cole has seemingly always considered it an honour to be amongst the best of his contemporaries, shouting out the top rappers including Lamar in multiple songs. The pair once collaborated in 2013 on Cole’s ‘Forbidden Fruit‘ track from his ‘Born Sinner‘ album to critical acclaim.
However, Lamars’ stance is that he is the biggest rapper at the moment, and did not take kindly to being mentioned in a “Big Three” discussion.
‘7 Minute Drill’ is part of a larger surprise project, ‘Might Delete Later‘ that Cole dropped on April 4, ahead of his album ‘The Fall Off‘ slated to be released sometime this year.
